I dunno about other people (although Whedon definitely has a lot of fans who think he is the Second Feminist Coming and can do no wrong), but I mainly love Firefly for its potential more than what it actually was.

I am pretty darn fond of Wash and Zoe, though.

They are interesting characters and I like their dynamic (there just don't seem to be enough decent married characters around on TV. Everyone's either unhappy about it or about to break it). I really like the ideas behind the futuristic world he's built but the execution just seems a little clumsy and clunky... too on the nose. Maybe it needed some more time to mature. Like wine.

As I said, I still have yet to finish the series. I may end up changing my mind!

*nods*

I feel like it would have been a much better show if developed by someone who knew something about China, and took the trouble to think out a plausible future universe dominated by a China-UK-US Alliance. Unfortunately, Whedon mostly wanted to be able to have actors cuss on air in bad Mandarin, with some "Chinese flavor" thrown in for window dressing. Idea cool, but execution...badly thought out.
