It's so true - when the 'control'(?) ship got shot down, I thought the film was over. I was so happy that it ended on such a depressing note! But then van de Merwe got all heroic (which I suppose makes sense for his story arc) and the film became uplifting *sighs*. At least the other Prawns didn't find themselves magically 'beamed up' to the mothership, (that has to be one of the worst cliches ever in sci-fi), or I would have gagged.

Another nice touch was the reveal at the end about the rising Prawn population. I like to theorise that a bloody revolution is imminent - there's only so much an anthropomorphic cockroach can take!

is it not more offensive for being based on truth than if it was pure weirdo fabrication? I'd normally agree with the former, but there's always going to be someone - far too many someones - who'll say something like 'it can't be offensive, because it's actually true' *shrugs*. For me, the Nigerian gangsters were indeed all the more offensive because they were based on reality, and it's just annoying that any attempt to clarify reality from stereotype leaves people like me making what sounds like apologetics for child-sacrificers.
