Snowed last night but it was pathetic. By the time I woke up, most of it was gone. Piss-poor.
Near the end of Shadowmancer and I have to say, it could have been SO much better. Problem is, the Christian overtones are so obvious, it's embarrassing and at the beginning, the pace goes a little too quickly but once you get into it, it's not bad. Not something that I would read again, though. A little too amateurish for my liking. I don't mind the theology, that's fine; the vicar who wrote it is more liberal than you'd believe (pro-gay/women odinations etc) and more open-minded too, and it's about time that I read some uncompromising theology - I respect that, though I may not agree with it. However, the way it's set out... certainly not worthy of comparisons to JKR or Phillip Pullman: you can tell the publishers just wanted to get the rights to the next big children's book.
So, yeah, I'm rather pissed. They call it a Christian answer to Harry Potter and His Dark Materials... whatever...
I'm also pretty annoyed at the Daily Telegraph because they are very balanced and critical when it comes to reviewing books and they hailed Shadowmancer a fair bit. *sighs* Now who can I place my trust in, if not the Daily Telegraph?
