Alan Moore being his usual interesting self: http://www.avclub.com/content/node/51180/1

Watched 'City of Vice' last night. Polar opposite to Fanny Hill and just as marvellous - it's a proper series as well, so it should end up on DVD after August.

I watched that. Was intrigued to see how much John Fielding looked like how I imagined one of my own characters from roughly that period.

I thought they got the look quite right - not too polished but not uber-skanky. He would have been the equivalent of today's upper middle-class after all.

And the scene where the woman gets stabbed was one of the few on television that has ever made me react (mostly by squirming and wincing). I rather look forward to next week's episode.

Indeed. I found myself quite creeped out by Jack Harris, too, which was fortunate - he seemed to change aspects quite rapidly from charmer to threatening presence to middle-man.
