Just finished reading my recently arrived present: a collection of 'The Spirit'.

Nothing like all-American racism/sexism/xenophobia to boost the soul. Actually it's funny how different American sexism (1940s) is from British, or at least, London sexism at that time. Different enough that one particular entry in 'an American Serviceman's guide to Britain' which really struck me when I first read it, now makes sense. In it, the book advises American soldiers to accept the fact that they will have women ordering them, as the British soldiers already do, because 'she did not gain those medals by knitting more socks than anybody in Ipswich.'

I've also seen clips from Mad Men, which looks amazing, and makes me quite happy I did not live in the 60s (although, to be honest, my father helped rid me of that particular delusion long ago).

Perhaps it's something to do with the role of women and the different understandings of said role in societies across le pond.

Anyway, off to bed with me.

Oh yes, anyone up to seeing 'The Magic Flute' at the Duke of York's?
