Oh, and there's a really good article in the latest New Scientist about so-called 'scientific' books that seek to explain the difference between the sexes etc. The writer doesn't go into too much detail but exposes the illogic of so many of the prepositions and arguments that back them up with the scathing it deserves. Suffice to say for now on my part, I have never quite understood why the comparatively petty differences between the sexes should result in such major 'disparities' (which usually turn out to be extremes or cliches, oddly enough) and have never been given any fully convincing arguments either.

Given that individual variation completely overwhelms any systematically measurable difference in behavior between men and women, the really "scientific" answer would be that focusing on those differences, however measurable, is totally missing the point. Not that certain kinds of people don't try to make a big deal of those differences .. :) .. but it's not scientific and never was.

But then again, very few such people ever seem to apply statistical analysis the way they really should .. :D
