I am very very angry. Absolutely furious.
Went shopping today in the town centre, and passed the usual charity people and weird organisations people and interesting people, and the ever-present bible people. On my way back home, just about all the others had gone and the only one left was the bible person who'd managed to get herself quite a crowd. Now normally people ignore religious speakers, so I was intrigued and went to see what all the fuss was about, only to see something that just made me blood boil.
I'm not a particularly tolerant person, actually. I'm just a coward. But one thing I can't stand is the Mob. I don't care what they stand for, I don't care who they are. When I see a group of like-minded people, even if they're liberal secular vegan humanists or something*, I just feel very uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable.
Most of the crowd were quite young, (which just made it all the more incredibly disturbing - and I'm hardly the nicest person in the world either) and were just being plain horrid to the woman who was speaking. And I do mean horrid - I don't mean interrupting her or shouting her down (she'd probably appreciate that tbh) but actually throwing things and spitting at her.
So I went to her and asked her what it was exactly she wanted to achieve with this, which spoilt the fun somewhat - a lot of the crowd just went away at that point. I did have a few angry words with the worst offenders in the crowd, but I don't think it did anything, nor should it have. I hardly make a threatening figure, after all, even with my best Mary Poppins impression.
The worst thing to me, though, was the fact that when I approached her, a couple of others (from her church, I'd imagine) also started jumping down my throat. I couldn't believe that they were quite willing to let their 'sister in Christ' be humiliated by a pack of young idiots (but then WHY AM I SO SURPRISED? NO DOUBT IT FUELS THEIR WANNABE MATYR SYNDROME. I MEAN, HONESTLY....) but when someone decides that enough's enough, they just won't have it. The guy in question turned out to be her husband (NOT EVEN A LITTLE SURPRISED?) and there was no reasoning with him - he said something stupid like 'I don't care about words, I care about actions. If you can critisise, why don't you try it?'. Oh, of all the bloody minded fools... Reader, I nearly slapped him.
Anyway. She turned out to be quite nice, and the others from the church started doing the usual 'pray for an open heart' shtick (at least they didn't say an open mind. There's only so open before your brains fall out after all, lol...). She said she didn't care about converting anyone, she just wanted to read the bible to people. Well, there was plenty to say to that, but as it wasn't what I was concerned about, I left it there.
It was odd how quickly and thoroughly the crowd dissipated though, like camuoflagued assassins into the darkness. Does make one think about the mob and where it comes from. Well, it makes me think at any rate.
And I'm still angry about it. It was just really horrible. I know humans aren't nice, I'm not that stupid, but that doesn't mean you can't call them out and say what they do is horrible when it is. Eurgh.
It also makes me wonder when I became so insane. I blame
*OK, that was a slight exaggeration, because a lot of the ones I've met are very sweet. As in, so nice and erudite and intelligent that you wonder if they're on pills or something.

I had to post this because I was just so angry (and embarrassed...) and I needed to calm down. At least I won't be ranting at dinner to my housemates now, ha.

Yeah, but it makes sense. When someone called them on their behaviour, they were seeing how crazy they acted, probably. Well done!
