This is very important. Very important.

Which synonym for 'pretentious' sounds best?
euphuistic
highfaluting
grandiloquent
magniloquent
bombastic
aureate
promise rings


Those were the nicest sounding ones that thesaurus.com gave. If you have any other ones, don't hesitate to tell me. Of late, I've realised I need new words as my last dictionary trawl was six years ago for GCSE English Language. I know, I know - shameful, right?

Ironically, some would call the use of those words pretentious. Except bombastic, because... it's clearly not. Anyway, I like highfaluting because it sounds made-up. Possibly not a good reason to use it.

...now I'm going to use it all the time so when people say 'you just made that up', for once I can protest vigorously with the truth amd point them to thesaurus.com. Cheers!

And yes. Most of those words are pretty pretentiouss in themselves. Too damn French-sounding, that's what it is...
