WTF is wrong with these people?
You know, once, whilst we were travelling from Enugu to Abagana, we came across a small crowd gathered around a mini-van with one of the road police whipping a youth. Upon asking my parents what was going on, it turned out that that is practice amongst those employed in Federal related offices against anyone they find wearing a uniform who isn't part of the corps.
Bloody stupid, but, as they explained, they don't want non-members wearing the uniform as it gives the official guys a bad rep if the non-members are caught breaking the law. So, to discourage this, they punish them publicly and fine them.
Now, considering these are the same officials who everyone knows engage in smuggling and bribery, that's pretty laughable and even more pathetic (do they not like the idea that other people who aren't part of their unit can get their palms greased by dint of wearing the uniform? Ah, hypocrisy has such a sweet scent...). But this? This is sick.
