Some things that've been annoying me:
I have a friend who's homeless and everytime I see him, we have a chat and I give him money. I'm usually fortunate to be able to give him a good amount, enough to buy coffee and a muffin from a cheap-ish cafe, at any rate.
But what really annoys me is that some eople will just chuck him 1p or 2p and I'm like: well, what's the point of giving him anything at all? He's not ordering you to give him anything, (he rarely asks because he's pretty tired most of the time) and you're under no obligation to give him anything. If you're going to give him something, at least do it properly, not just a few pennies because you're in a hurry or something. If that's the case, don't give him anything whatsoever.
Another quibble I have: No more hand drawn cartoons from Disney. It's not that I dislike computer animations, but I like the look of cartoons even though their plots tend to be, well, crap. Ah, well - life goes on...

I still don't see the point of giving pennies though, because it's still money which a hopeless, desperate addict could save up and go and buy more drugs with. And the Job Centre solution is not the easiest thing int he world, even for people with homes!
It's an all or nothing thing, for me. Either we put in everything we can to help them - talking to them, treating them with diginity, helping out in any way we can etc - or we do nothing. The halfway approach to anything just pisses me off, which is why I made the post.
Thanks for commenting!

Re: Cathy
In truth, my problem is with the attitude some people show. It's all "If I toss them one or two coppers/a fiver then they'll go away." If you don't care, don't bother, is what I always say.
As for my stupid quote: I was just trying to explain my POV following your line of thought - the preposition that they will just go out and buy drugs with whatever we give them. The fact that some will have sex for it changes things slightly, doesn't it? Maybe we should lock them all up in convents or monasteries (again, sarcasm).
And thanks for replying - I was wondering if you'd not known I'd responded (not being sarcastic this time).
