Some things that've been annoying me:

I have a friend who's homeless and everytime I see him, we have a chat and I give him money. I'm usually fortunate to be able to give him a good amount, enough to buy coffee and a muffin from a cheap-ish cafe, at any rate.

But what really annoys me is that some eople will just chuck him 1p or 2p and I'm like: well, what's the point of giving him anything at all? He's not ordering you to give him anything, (he rarely asks because he's pretty tired most of the time) and you're under no obligation to give him anything. If you're going to give him something, at least do it properly, not just a few pennies because you're in a hurry or something. If that's the case, don't give him anything whatsoever.

Another quibble I have: No more hand drawn cartoons from Disney. It's not that I dislike computer animations, but I like the look of cartoons even though their plots tend to be, well, crap. Ah, well - life goes on...

I read your journal entry and people give homeless people 1 pennies because they know that all they are going to do with their money is spend it on drugs. Also homeless people should spend less time sitting on street corners like scavengers and more time in their local job centre getting a job or perhaps visiting their local shelter so they can get a place to live and then a job. However they asre so self pitying and selfish they grab everyone elses money to spend on drugs, alcohol and such like. If he was that desperate to live like a normal person he would by now.

Uh-huh, I understand your point. Steve was a lot like that to start off with actually, but then I began talking to him and lately, he's been trying to find a job, get some evening classes and (the best news of all) his sister has come back into contact with him.

I still don't see the point of giving pennies though, because it's still money which a hopeless, desperate addict could save up and go and buy more drugs with. And the Job Centre solution is not the easiest thing int he world, even for people with homes!

It's an all or nothing thing, for me. Either we put in everything we can to help them - talking to them, treating them with diginity, helping out in any way we can etc - or we do nothing. The halfway approach to anything just pisses me off, which is why I made the post.

Ah, well in that case. I still don't see the point. Well, now that you mentioned it, I do: it's a good way to get rid of all those coppers you don't want (and as you seem to be the sort of person I'll need to tell, note the sarcasm, please).

In truth, my problem is with the attitude some people show. It's all "If I toss them one or two coppers/a fiver then they'll go away." If you don't care, don't bother, is what I always say.

As for my stupid quote: I was just trying to explain my POV following your line of thought - the preposition that they will just go out and buy drugs with whatever we give them. The fact that some will have sex for it changes things slightly, doesn't it? Maybe we should lock them all up in convents or monasteries (again, sarcasm).

And thanks for replying - I was wondering if you'd not known I'd responded (not being sarcastic this time).
