I really must go to bed soon, but this has been pricking at me for a whole day. No, it's not the promised rant of a few days ago (will be coming) that was stalled by my fickle heart. Something that I got het up about today, actually.
It's great going to a CofE Secondary School, because you hear so much crap that you wouldn't anywhere else. It's brilliant. I don't know why people dislike Christian based faith schools: if you want the future Graylings, Dawkins', Backmore's, just chuck your kid into one of those places and give them a healthy dose of Spinoza before they go to bed.
But that's something else.
I overheard two Philosophy students, one of whom was saying that 'you don't need to believe in the evolution [for something or other]," at which, being me, I whirled round and jokingly said, "Well, if you're a biologist, it's pretty much essential..." (they'd come from the direction of the science block, so I assumed that that's what had started their discussion ).
To which, the girl who'd first spoken said, "well, if you're not going to be a biologist, what then?"
I'm like, "Well, how about explaining human behaviour --?" But I had to hurry into my Physics class and remain smouldering over a debate left unfinished. I hate that, I really do. And I so wanted to wipe that smug, disbelieving look off her face (it's always these damn Philosophy students) with my 'superior' argument... *sighs* So here I shall release my pent up aggression...
Uses of the Theory of Evolution:
Language
Culture/Society
Religions
Philosophical ideas (dude, these things didn't suddenly spring up from nowhere... they all evolved, heh)
Human psychology
Engineering
Biology
Watching 'La Belle et La Bete' on Film4. Wow.
It's my birthday today. Everyone ate my cakes!
