That's right, the Mice are back!
Since our next door neigbour died, the mice have taken over his floor (another family lived on top) and have now started making their way into ours.
Before, they were only downstairs, but then we - as homo sapiens tend to do - got crafty and purchased some of those incredibly cool high frequency noise plugs that keep the mice at bay.
However, as homo sapiens tend to do, we got complacent and somehow did not think that the mice would come upstairs.
So tonight, as I was making a few extra notes for my presentation tomorrow, a little grey furrball raced across the room. It had been a bit stunned when I switched on the light and had then suddenly realised that, ZOMG, there was a human sitting opposite it, staring at it and clearing her throat, so it made a mad dash for it.
It was quite sweet really. It looked like one of those small grey creatures that you find at railway stations (which always creeped me out when I first saw them living beneath the tracks: wah! running stones!).
The solution is pretty simple actually. We'll just make another trip to B&Q.

Oh Flo - see what myopia does to a person? C'est vraiment terrible... But seen clearly, mice are actualy quite cute. They have these beady little eyes that look like the segments of a blackberry. Diddy.
Just not so cute when you're chasing the cat around brandishing a dust-pan and brush, trying to retrieve and dispose of the remains of said running stone in a vain attempt to prevent the flingage of mouse entrails etc all over your stuff. Mmmm, entrails. Tasty...

And it's true, the mice do look so cute, even if they are vermin. Their fur is like velvet, and they are so small and detailed. Amazing.
They also move incredibly fast, which I find cool.

It's also strange when you can hear them, but not actually see them, so you start looking from side to side and your eyes widening, like some short-skirted schoolgirl in a Japanese horror movie. Right now, for instance, the mouse has gone under the pile of books nearest the door, and I know that once I try to leave the room, it'll panic and run out in my direction.
