I have a small query about Snape's role in the war against Voldemort.
We know that he is indeed spying for Dumbledore but what does this entail? In the Ministry building, why wasn't he amongst those accompanying Voldemort? I guess I can sort of answer this by saying Voldemort only chose a few select... and mentally disturbed fanatics are easier to order about than an apparently more balanced and logical minded follower... but I still want to know what Snape being a spy actually means. It could simply mean that he snoops around in the meeting places, listening to what the DEs have to say to Voldemort, or is it, well, not so passive, where he is actively deceiving Voldemort...?
And another question: what about Sirius? Was he an actual auror or just another memeber of the Order of the Phoenix?

I'd say Snape's biggest deception is the "I was never really on Dumbledore's side, my Lord..." thing. But if he's any good as an Occlumens, of course, he could be lying to Dumbledore, too. As for why he didn't accompanying them to the Dept. of Mysteries, I think that is because Voldemort would understand that Snape must keep up certain pretenses in order not to arouse Dumbledore's suspicions, because Voldie wouldn't want to lose his counter-spy, either. Either way, Snape's position sucks. *pets him*
I doubt Sirius was an actual Auror. I'm sure he could have been if he'd wanted to be (unless they include a fair amount of psychological screening), but I think he preferred the unofficial ties of the Order.

Looking at it now, it seems pretty obvious. Why do I continually insist on reading so much into this?

God I'm such a dork... then again, being so obssessed with Snape, that's just one more thing we have in common.
Sarcastic, obssessive dorks gotta stick together, is what I always say!
